Happy SysAdmin Appreciation Day!

Smart Bird

This is amazing - not to mention funny and very cute. I cannot imagine the amount of training that went into this little bird.

Testing...

I'm trying out a new blog template. I saved the old in case I want to revert, but I'm tired of the space constraints of the old one. But I really do like the old style...

EDIT: Nevermind, that seriously sucked. Font size was GINORMOUS, reverting in five, four, three, two...

Linkage

Ok, I'll be honest. I ripped this off of Gar's blog at sysadminco.com - but only because I am awed by his brilliance. No, really. Will you be my friend?

Basically, the count makes this worth viewing. That man had a serious problem, a problem I can relate to. I can't help but average numbers when I see groups of them. I WISH I COULD STOP.

If a shirt is wrinkle-free, shouldn't the demo model not have any WRINKLES?

I love visiting foundmagazine.com every once in awhile.
This particular note, however many times I see it I never tire of reading.

The Cowboy-Ninja-Pirate-Knight Test

a Knight Captain
You scored 9 Honor, 8 Justice, 5 Adventure, and 1 Individuality!

Some knights follow the orders given them. Some know when to improvise. The second sort are the ones that grow to power, to become leadeers and Knight Captains. Your sense of duty, honor and justice speaks that your name should be amongst their ranks.

Get your squire, your banner, your armor and your sword. You're gonna do just fine

Big-ass image that won't fit the space...

Hey Mr VJ

Final Score: 117

Starting a new wish list...

Ya, I know I just built a new system this year. Really I'm looking at getting a new monitor. I'm really loving my 17" Samsung SynchMaster 710T, brilliant 12ms response time and all. But I've been overcome with jealousy over my wife's new 19" Dell LCD. Sooooo.... I'm thinking of getting a nice gamer LCD to replace the 710T for LAN parties, and use the aforementioned one for everyday work (attached to my workstation and others via KVM). My hangup is dual outputs (DVI and Analog), mostly because I can run the gaming server from the LAN party off of the Analog output on the 710T right now. Minor concern, if I were to really get WinXP Remote Desktop working right then I shouldn't need that. Here's what I'm looking at:

Samsung 915N Black 19" LCD: 8ms response time, 300 cd/m2 brightness; 700:1 contrast ratio, Analog RGB only input. $304 Newegg.
Samsung SyncMaster 930B Black 19" LCD: 8ms response time, 300 cd/m2 brightness; 700:1 contrast ratio, Analog RGB and DVI digital inputs. $434 Best Buy.
ViewSonic VX924 Black/Silver 19" LCD: 4ms (gray-to-gray)to 5ms (typ) response time, 270 cd/m2 brightness, 550:1 Contrast Ratio, Analog RGB and DVI digital inputs. $419 Newegg.
BenQ FP91G+ Black 19" LCD: 8ms response time, 250 cd/m2 brightness, 550:1 Contrast Ratio, Analog RGB and DVI digital inputs. $349 Newegg.

Optimus Keyboard With OLED Display Keys

Slashdot has a really cool story about a new keyboard with some serious geek quotient:
What appears to be a Russian design company has on their website a keyboard in which the keys are using OLED to display what function the keys represent. The product is [0]Art. Lebedev Studio's Optimus Keyboard. The uses of this could be amazing. They have pictures of layouts for Photoshop and Quake, as well as a QWERTY and Russian. Here's hoping that this will make it to a production model and not just a design model.
This looks pretty sweet, I thought at first the keys would be ungainly and ugly but the imaging is really nice, not very blocky, and infinitely customizable. Very stylish look as well. Check it out.
